Local candidates prepping for looming election

Province still quiet on timing of official campaign

The countdown continues for the upcoming provincial election, which has to happen on or before May 31.

The election writ has not yet been dropped by the provincial government, though early campaigning is already underway.

This past weekend, MLA Erin Babcock officially launched her re-election campaign, with the grand opening of her campaign office on First Avenue in Spruce Grove.

The Stony Plain MLA won the nomination to run in the new riding of Spruce Grove-Stony Plain back in January.

Meanwhile UCP candidate Searle Turton is preparing to take a leave from Spruce Grove city council when the campaigning officially starts.

At tonight's meeting, council will review his request to take an unpaid leave of absence during the official campaign period.
