Whitecourt beats Spruce Grove for second time in two weeks
The Spruce Grove Saints dropped a tough 3-2 decision to the Whitecourt Wolverines on home ice last night.
Whitecourt already had a 1-0 lead when the Saints went on the powerplay midway through the first.
But a shorthanded goal from Mackenzie Harden extended the visitor’s lead to 2-0.
Dylan Bourlai brought the deficit back to one before the period ended, but the Wolverines would score the only goal of the second period on a powerplay, despite holding off a high pressure Saints attack for most of the period.
In the third, the Saints continued to throw the kitchen sink at goaltender Tye Morin, who finished the night with 31 saves.
A goal from TJ Lloyd with less than three minutes to play cut the Wolverines lead, but it was as close as the Saints would get.
Up next, a tough schedule continues on the road this weekend.
A rematch with the Brooks Bandits is set for Friday night, before a visit to Drumheller on Saturday.
