Thunder shutout Saints to save season

Spruce Grove still leads series 2-1

The Spruce Grove Saints will get a second kick at the can tonight, when it comes to eliminating the Drayton Valley Thunder.

After a 2-0 win in Game 1 last Thursday, the Saints followed that up with a 2-1 victory in Game 2 on Friday night.

Last night in Drayton Valley, the Saints peppered Thunder goalie Luke Lush with 38 shots, but were unable to beat him in a 1-0 loss.

Ty Whitford had the game’s only goal midway through the second period, as the Thunder held on to keep their season alive.

Tonight’s Game 4 is at the Omniplex once again, with a 7 pm puck drop.

If it’s necessary, a fifth game would be played in Spruce Grove on Wednesday night.

If the Saints are successful in winning the series, they would meet the Bonnyville Pontiacs in the second round.

They swept the Whitecourt Wolverines out of the postseason with a 3-1 win last night.

That would leave the first-place Sherwood Park Crusaders with a second round matchup against the winner of the Fort McMurray-Grande Prairie series.

The Oil Barons lead that one 2-1, after a 4-2 win last night.
