Spruce Grove defeats Whitecourt 5-3
The Spruce Grove Saints picked up a win on the road last night, 5-3 over the Whitecourt Wolverines.
For the second time in the last three games, the Saints had a 3-goal first period, as Dylan Bourlai, Logan Ganie, and Brett Trentham all found the back of the net in the opening frame.
That included one of the team’s two powerplay goals on the night from Bourlai.
Parker Saretsky added another goal on the man advantage in the second, with another from TJ Lloyd as insurance in the third.
Charles-Olivier Ouimet scored twice for Whitecourt, who also got a goal from Jaedon Leslie.
In goal, veteran Liam McCloskey needed to make only 9 saves for his third win of the season, while the Saints peppered Wolverines goaltender Tye Morin with 33 shots on the night.
Up next for Spruce Grove, a matchup on Friday night against the Calgary Mustangs.
The Mustangs beat the Saints 1-0 back at the league showcase late last month, and shot to the top of the South division standings.
But Calgary has begun to slide, and has now lost 7 in a row after a 3-2 loss to Camrose last night.
Game time Friday is at 7:00, with the pregame show on 88.1 The One kicking off at 6:40.
