The Spruce Grove Saints are moving onto the second round of the Playoffs after a 4-0 win over the Storm last night.
The Saints are heading to round two of the playoffs after a 4-0 win.
The Saints came into last night's game with a 3-2 series lead over Grande Prairie, and they managed to put the final nail in the coffin. The Saints opened the scoring in the first period with another goal by Cole Basnett, following up his two goal performance in game five which included the triple overtime winner. The goal would hold up as the lead after the first. In the second period, the Saints' offense came alive. The scoring began with a goal by Tanner Klassen 3:38 into the frame, assisted by Adam Hall and Seth Fyten. Just under seven minutes later with the Saints on a five minute powerplay, Fyten would score one of his own to make the score 3-0. Stanley Cooley would then score at 14:12 to give them a 4-0 lead after two.
That lead would eventually hold up as the winner, as the Saints continued their dominant performance in the third, by outshooting the Storm 18-5. Overall in the game the Saints led the shot total 47-16, and were excellent while down a player, going 9 for 9 on the Penalty Kill. Next up they will face the Whitecourt Wolverines in round two, who also won their first round series in six games against the Fort McMurray Oil Barrons.
The Saints and Wolverines played six times this season, and Spruce Grove won four of them.
