Saints split Southern road trip

Beaten by Brooks, drop Drumheller

The Spruce Grove Saints picked up a split over two games on the road this past weekend.

Friday night, the Saints and Bandits were tied 3-3 in Brooks midway through the third period.

That came after a breakaway tally from Nick Leyer, and a two-goal performance from Jordan Biro.

But two goals from defenceman Andrew Lucas, an empty netter from Mack Hancock, and a garbage time goal from Bobby Harrison sealed the 7-3 loss.

It was the first defeat all season that had been by more than one goal.

On Saturday night, the Saints took home two big homes against Drumheller.

Rookie Bruce MacGregor scored for the third time in five games, veteran Jake Ashton finally scored his first of the year, and Nick Leyer's empty netter were all the team needed for a 3-1 win.

Matthew Davis stopped 27 shots in goal, after a rock solid performance from Liam McCloskey against the Bandits on Friday.

The Saints return home for a week of practice before a doubleheader in Fort McMurray against the Oil Barons next weekend.
