Saints send four to Jr. A Challenge tryouts

Calgary selection camp will decide team for Canada West

This year's World Junior A Challenge tournament in Bonnyville will likely feature some Spruce Grove flavour.

Saints forward Parker Saretsky, defencemen TJ Lloyd and Tanner Hickey, and goaltender Matthew Davis have all been picked to attend the Team Canada West selection camp.

The 44-man selection camp will be whittled down to 22 players at the beginning of next week in Calgary, ahead of the tournament that runs from December 9 to 15.

Along with Team Canada East, the West side will compete against the USA, Czech Republic, and Russia.

The Saints also announced that the team has traded for 18-year-old forward Cole Basnett, in exchange for 18-year-old forward Kris Bladen and future considerations

Basnett comes from the Calgary Mustangs, where he put up 15 points in 24 games this year.

He's expected to make his debut on Wednesday against Whitecourt.

Bladen was in his rookie season with the Saints, and had 7 points through 19 games this year.

That includes the memorable game winner against the Brooks Bandits to snap their 14 game win streak

The team is also anticipating the addition of 20-year-old defenceman Evan Wood, whose rights were acquired from Lloydminster on Friday.

He's been playing overseas in Germany so far this season.
