Saints push Pontiacs into 3-0 hole

Saints beat Bonnyville 4-1 in Game 3

The Spruce Grove Saints took another step toward the North Division final, with a 4-1 win over the Bonnyville Pontiacs in Game 3 of their semifinal series.

The Saints scored three-and-a-half minutes into the first, as Parker Saretsky gave his team a 1-0 lead through 20 minutes.

In the second, a powerplay goal from Cam Mitchell led to three straight from the Saints in an eight-and-a-half minute stretch, with Seth Fyten and Logan Ganie also finding the back of the net.

Lucas Thorne added a shorthanded goal five minutes later, though the Pontiacs came out of the second period down 4-1, while also being outshot 43-9.

A scoreless third cemented the win for the Saints, as Matt Davis needed only 12 saves to take victory.

The win pushes Bonnyville to the brink, as the Saints are now only one win away from advancing to the third round.

Logan Ganie has scored two points in each of the last four games, and leads the team with six points in three games against the Pontiacs.

On the flip side, Pontiacs leading scorer Marc Antoine Benoit has yet to register a point in the semifinals.

Game 4 goes tonight at Grant Fuhr Arena, with puck drop coming up at 7 pm.

A Pontiacs win would send the series back to Bonnyville for a Game 5 on Friday night.
