Spruce Grove Saints forward Cam Mitchell has finalized the next step of his hockey career.
The 18-year-old from Stony Plain has committed to the University of Omaha Nebraska, and will be the first Saint to play for the Mavericks.
After 28 points in 57 games as a rookie two seasons ago, Mitchell put up 35 points last season, despite injuries limiting him to 46 games played.
In the playoffs, he elevated his game and recorded 10 points in 14 games.
Along with teammates Matt Davis and Jordan Biro, Mitchell will play on a team of AJHL selects at the Junior Club World Cup, where they'll represent Canada.
The Saints preseason begins on August 27 with a couple of split squad games against the Drayton Valley Thunder in Spruce Grove.
