Saints lose game, players to suspension

Misconducts lead to suspensions in loss to Crusaders

The Spruce Grove Saints fell 4-1 to the Sherwood Park Crusaders last night - their fourth loss to the Cru this season.

Spruce Grove struck first when Matthew Rempe shot the puck the length of the ice on the penalty kill.

The puck took a wicked hop and right turn, rolling past goaltender Matt Berlin.

But Sherwood Park tied the game before the period was out, and scored another three unanswered the rest of the way.

Connor Hart, Garrett Clegg, Carter Savoie, and Zafir Rawji all had goals in the win.

Emotions boiled over in the third period, when Dylan Bourlai was hit with a major, misconduct, and match penalty for a blow to the head.

Stanley Cooley and Cole Basnett were also given game misconducts as a result of the aftermath.

Thursday, the AJHL announced that Cooley and Basnett were each suspended for one game each as a result of their involvement.

It's set to be served on December 29 when the team is in Lloydminster to face the Bobcats.

The league also announced that Bourlai is facing an automatic seven game suspension for the penalties incurred on the play.

That would make Bourlai eligible to return on January 23 against the Drumheller Dragons.
