The Spruce Grove Saints kicked off their opening season by sweeping the Sherwood Park Crusaders.

On Friday, both teams traded goals throughout the game. Lucas Ciona and Jayden Davis scored two goals within two minutes, but Crusaders forward Ty Mueller was able to fire one passed Blake Lyda and tie it with just a few minutes left in the third. Luck however was on the Saints side as Graham Gamache was able to fire one home thirty-one seconds into overtime, giving the Saints a 4-3 win.

During Saturday’s game, Ciona and Gamache were able to keep it going with goals in the second and third periods. The Crusaders would get one on the powerplay late in the third, but the Saints would hold on for a 4-2 win.

The club is now tied for first with Fort McMurray in the North Division and will take on third place Grande Prairie that split both their games last weekend against Bonnyville.

Both the Saints and Storm’s games will be held at Grant Fuhr Arena this Friday and Saturday night at 7 o clock.
