Saints fall 3-2 to Storm in double overtime

After winning games one and two, the Saints take a loss against the Grande Prairie Storm last night

After winning games one and two at home, the Saints were looking to go for the sweep on the road, but the Storm put a stop to those plans.

Following a scoreless first period, the Saints were the first on the board just under 12 minutes into the second period, when Graham Gamache scored on the powerplay assisted by Tanner Klassen. That goal would hold up as a lead heading into third. In the ensuing period, the Storm tied up the game 4:45 in with a goal from Jackson Wozniak. The Saints would regain the lead again at 9:12 after a high sticking penalty made by Wozniak. Ryan Conroy would score on that powerplay with the assist from Nick Leyer. However, the Storm once again tied it up with just five minutes remaining, forcing overtime.

The first extra frame yielded no scoring from either team, the game then went into double overtime. 14 minutes in, the Storm took a high sticking penalty, giving the Saints their second man advantage of the double overtime period. However, the Saints spirits would be crushed when Nathan Morgan shocked Spruce Grove with a shorthanded goal to end the game, and cut the series defecit to one game. Storm goalie Kaeden Lane had an excellent game, stopping 50 shots, including 23 in the sudden death overtime periods.

Game four will be tonight at 7:30.
