Spruce Grove wins second straight
The Spruce Grove Saints took down the Whitecourt Wolverines last night by a 2-1 score.
After a scoreless first period, Whitecourt finally broke the deadlock about three quarters of the way through the second, when Chase Haygarth scored his first of the season off the rush.
Heading into the third period down 1-0, the Saints finally got a powerplay to work with, and converted when Parker Saretsky tapped it in at the side of the net, after a Tanner Hickey shot from the point bounced off of the end boards.
Less than three minutes later, and after each team took a double minor to make it an extended period of 4 on 4 hockey, the Saints pulled ahead for good.
Bruce MacGregor led the rush up the left wing side, before sliding a cross-ice pass to TJ Lloyd.
Lloyd beat the defenceman by a stride, and slapped it past Tye Morin for the 2-1 goal.
That was all the Saints needed, as Matthew Davis made 22 saves for the win.
Up next, a visit from the Drayton Valley Thunder on Friday night at 7 pm.
