Saints defeat Dragons

Spruce Grove carrying lengthy winning streak into weekend

The Spruce Grove Saints have won their fifth game in a row - 4-3 on home ice over the Drumheller Dragons last night.

The Saints jumped out to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes, thanks to goals from Seth Fyten and Nick Leyer.

Leyer’s goal snapped a 10-game goalless drought, while Fyten now has goals in three straight games.

Spruce Grove extended the lead 15 seconds into the second with Leyer’s second of the game.

After the Dragons got one back before the period was out, Mackenzie Harden scored in the first minute of the third to give the Saints a 4-1 lead.

The Dragons clawed back with goals from Roc Truman and a wraparound from Shane Ott, but were shut down in the final minutes.

Liam McCloskey picked up his second win in goal in as many games, after beating the Calgary Canucks on Saturday.

Next up for the Saints is a visit from Fort McMurray Friday night.
