Saints confident heading into regular season

GM Rob Sklaruk discusses the upcoming campaign.

The Spruce Grove Saints are heading into the regular season as the defending North Division champions.

General Manager Rob Sklaruk says he's been impressed with how the core of returning veterans came into training camp in good shape.

While the Saints had a veteran backup goaltender last season with Liam McCloskey, Sklaruk says he doesn't see another over-ager playing behind starter Matt Davis.

"We're not looking for this year, but certainly if Matt goes next year then that person steps-in," said Sklaruk.

He also says that if a trade is coming, it'll likely be an exchange of forward depth for help on the blueline, which doesn't have the experience of TJ Lloyd and Tanner Hickey this year.

The regular season starts at home against Drayton Valley on Friday, Sept. 13.
