Series starts with back to back wins, including double OT thriller
The Spruce Grove Saints are bringing a 2-0 series lead back to Spruce Grove this week.
Friday night, the Saints opened up the semifinals in Bonnyville with a 5-2 win.
After trailing 1-0 heading into the second period, the Saints got three unanswered goals in the middle frame, thanks to Parker Saretsky, Stanley Cooley, and Seth Fyten.
Spruce Grove added two in the third from Cam Mitchell and Jordan Biro, as the former returned from injury to play his first postseason game this year, in a game that ended 5-2 for the Saints.
In Game 2, the Pontiacs led 3-0 at one point in the first period, before Logan Ganie answered back on the powerplay.
Mackenzie Harden and Dylan Bourlai tied it up in regulation, in a game that went all the way to double overtime.
It was 1:03 into the fifth period when Biro scored on a wraparound to cement the 4-3 win.
Monday night's game is at 7 pm at Grant Fuhr Arena - a rink where the Saints have lost all three times they've hosted Bonnyville this season.
Two of those losses came in overtime; 3-2 on December 14, and 2-1 on February 8.
They sandwiched the 8-1 blowout on January 26.
Following Monday, Game 4 is also in Spruce Grove on Tuesday, before the series potentially shifts back to Bonnyville for Game 5 on Friday.
