4-3 win sends Saints on to Bonnyville
The Spruce Grove Saints are headed to the second round of the playoffs, thanks to a 4-3 win over Drayton Valley last night that eliminated the Thunder.
The Saints led 1-0 after the first, thanks to a powerplay goal from Jordan Biro.
That proved to be the difference, as the teams traded goals the rest of the way.
An early goal from Jeremy Klessens led to a go-ahead goal from Alex Dalton just over a minute later.
After Brett Bamber tied it on the powerplay, the Saints immediately struck back again.
Parker Saretsky put Spruce Grove back on the board 23 seconds after, to make it 3-2 Saints after 40.
In the third, Kabe Bleay tied it up for Drayton Valley one more time, which led to a thrilling finish.
In his second game back from injury, Saints defenceman Cory Babichuk blasted one home from the point with less than 10 seconds to play, giving Spruce Grove a 4-3 win.
Up next, a second round series with the Bonnyville Pontiacs, who are coming off a first round sweep of the Whitecourt Wolverines.
That series will kick off on Friday night, before returning to Spruce Grove for Game 3 on Monday.
