Win snaps Brooks' 14-game winning streak
The Spruce Grove Saints rattled off a couple of big wins against South division opponents over the weekend.
Friday night, Spruce Grove got two goals from rookie Stanley Cooley, and led the Calgary Mustangs 3-1 after 40.
But Calgary stormed back with goals in the third from Jackson Salt and Reece Soukouroff to force overtime.
Exactly halfway through the extra frame, defenceman Cory Babichuk carried the puck into the offensive zone, wheeled around the perimeter and walked out of the corner to beat Ashton Abel and give his team a 4-3 win.
Saturday, the Saints kept pace with the league-leading Brooks Bandits over the game's first 59 minutes, with the score tied 3-3.
But with 55 seconds left, rookie Kris Bladen blasted home a pass from Matt Rempe, giving the Saints another 4-3 win.
That also snapped the Bandits' 14 game winning streak.
Saints defenceman Tanner Hickey scored twice in the win, with another goal from Logan Ganie and a win for goaltender Braeden Stephen also on the scoresheet.
Up next, the Saints are back out on the road with games in Grande Prairie and Whitecourt next Friday/Saturday.
