Overtime loss followed up with big win
The Spruce Grove Saints bounced back from a 2-1 overtime loss to Bonnyville on Friday night, as they knocked off the whitecourt wolverines 8-4 on Sunday afternoon.
Friday, Cam Mitchell tied the game 1-1 in the third, off a feed from Ryan Peckford after a giveaway from Bonnyville goaltender Colby Muise.
But Bobby Young's winner came only eight seconds into overtime, giving the Pontiacs the win.
On Sunday, the Saints offence was clicking from the start of the game, as Spruce Grove scored twice in the first, three times in the second, and added another three in the third.
Peckford and Parker Saretsky each had three-point nights, while Logan Ganie added two goals, captain TJ Lloyd added another, and rookie defencemen Cameron Chin and Ryan Harker put up goals as well.
For Harker, it was his first of the season, and first of his AJHL career.
Matthew Davis needed 19 saves to pick up his 20th win of the season.
His 2.12 goals against average is still the best among starting goaltenders in the league, and is bettered only by Brooks backup Tanner Marshall, and Bonnyville backup Easton Hesse.
Next up for Spruce Grove, the rubber match in the season series with the Calgary Mustangs on Thursday night.
Puck drop from Calgary is 7:30, before a visit to Okotoks the next night.
