'99 Mackenzie Harden comes from Whitecourt
A day before the January 10th trade deadline, the Spruce Grove Saints have added depth up front.
19-year-old Mackenzie Harden has been acquired from the Whitecourt Wolverines, in exchange for cash and future considerations.
The Leduc native had put up 11 goals and 30 points in 38 games this season, and was the co-leading scorer of the Wolverines along with Jaedon Leslie.
Leslie was dealt to the Fort McMurray Oil Barons back on December 20th.
Currently in his fourth AJHL season, Harden has 89 points in 172 games split between Drayton Valley and Whitecourt.
“Mackenzie is a hard-nosed player that has a lot of sand paper to his game. He plays the game the right way and can be counted on to add offense and leadership to our room,” said GM Rob Sklaruk in a statement.
“Mackenzie has been a player of interest of ours for some time now, dating back to his days in Drayton Valley. We are excited to have finally landed him and are looking forward to seeing what he can accomplish in a Saints uniform.”
“Having coached against Mackenzie for the past two seasons, he is a player you notice every game by the way he competes and the effort he gives, it’s infectious.” added head coach/assistant GM Bram Stephen.
“His work ethic and heavy game is something we are excited to add to our line up. We think the way he plays will mesh well with our current players, translating into continued offensive success for Mackenzie.”
The former Leduc Oil King is expected to be wearing #39 in the Saints lineup Friday night, when the team is at home to Grande Prairie.
