Two Spruce Grove Saints players have committed to play for university teams next season.
Two members of the Spruce Grove Saints have committed to play collegiate hockey next season.
Last Friday, Saints forward Brayden Nicholetts announced he has committed to play for the University of Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks. Nicholetts is in his first year as a Saint, having joined the team after playing three seasons with the Drumheller Dragons. The Spruce Grove Native has 15 goals and 19 assists for 34 points in 37 games this season. In addition to his offensive ability, Nicholetts has solidified his presence as a physical presence for the team. He sits at 95 penalty minutes on the season, after putting up seasons of 117, 142 and 111 penalty minutes in Drumheller.
The other commitment came from forward and assistant captain Seth Fyten, who committed Monday to the Bowling Green State University Falcons. Fyten will join former Saints captain T.J. Lloyd on the up and coming Falcons team. The 19-year-old is in his third season in Spruce Grove, and is having the best season of his tenure. He has 19 goals and 19 assists in 49 games played, including 5 powerplay markers and 4 game winning goals.
The two will have one more chance to compete for an AJHL championship, as the Saints sit in second place in their division with a 38-12-2 record. Both players will begin play for their schools in the 2020-21 season.
