Former Saint enjoying Blackhawks training camp

Ian Mitchell played for the Saints from 2015 to 2017.

Former Spruce Grove Saint Ian Mitchell is continuing to impress the coaching staff in Chicago as he and the Blackhawks took part in a Red/White scrimmage with Team Red winning the game by a score of 8-2.

The St. Albert native took part in Day 7 of training camp after signing a deal with the Blackhawks back in April. He previously served as captain for the University of Denver hockey team where he had 32 points in 36 games for the Pioneers last season.

"I feel like I'm ready, that's the biggest thing. I had a good summer, I was able to get ready to play on the team and that was my goal for the whole summer. I've had a good camp so far."

Mitchell previously suited up for the Saints where he played two games towards the end of the 2015 season and had 64 points in 107 regular-season games with the club. He also helped Team Canada win the 2019 Spengler Cup.

The Blackhawks will take on the Tampa Bay Lightning this Wednesday at Amalie Arena.
