The Spruce Grove Saints needed a shootout to do it, but they took down the Drayton Valley Thunder 3-2 last night.

Following a first period with no scoring, Riley Bodnarchuk scored his first goal of the season 1:45 into the second to put the Saints up 1-0. They would follow that up with another goal just over 6 minutes later by Stanley Cooley. Saints forward Logan Acheson had assists on both goals. Drayton Valley would rally, putting a goal past Matt Davis on the powerplay in the second, followed by another goal 3:12 into the third to tie it.

In overtime, the Thunder controlled as far as shots went, out-shooting Spruce Grove 5-1, but Davis turned away every shot to put his total at 27 for the game.

The game then went to a shootout, and Ethan Edwards scored for Spruce Grove, while all three Drayton Valley shooters missed to give the Saints their 5th consecutive win.

The Saints take on the Drumheller Dragons next on the road on Friday.
