Sherwood Park holds on for 6-5 win
The Spruce Grove Saints made things pretty interesting in a wild third period, but were eventually beat 6-5 by the Sherwood Park Crusaders on home ice last night.
After tying the game in the first, the Saints gave up a powerplay goal with just 1.1 seconds left to head into the second period down a goal.
When the Crusaders got two goals early in the second, it looked like Sherwood Park might cruise to victory with a three goal lead after 40 minutes.
But the Saints poured it on to start the third, when Nick Leyer found the back of the net on a two man advantage.
Two more from Seth Fyten and affiliate Graham Gamache tied the game up at 4 before the period was five minutes old.
After taking a timeout, the Crusaders regrouped, and got consecutive goals from Garett Clegg and Tanner Fincaryk to go back up by two, and held on for the win despite a late Saints goal from Cole Basnett.
Rookie goaltender Andreai Proctor-Ramirez was called into action halfway through the third, and stopped all eight shots he faced, while Matt Berlin stopped 22 in the Crusader cage.
Up next for Spruce Grove, a visit to Drayton Valley Friday night, before a home ice matinee against Grande Prairie on Sunday.
