Umbach Off-leash Dog Park will be home to the 21-obstacle course.

Stony Plain is the home to Western Canada’s first world-class dog agility course that’s free-to-use by the public.

The site officially opens at 4:30 on Friday afternoon in Umbach Off-leash Dog Park.

It will feature 21 obstacles, ranging from a teeter-totter, to adjustable jumps, weave poles, and tunnels.

The design is considered the “most famous dog agility course in the world”, and was used in the 2015 world championships.

The town says although the course is designed for international competitions, it can be used by beginner dogs, as well as to help trainers to further develop their handling skills.

Manager of Operations. Greg Zirk, says it’s been an exciting project to work on, and the recent addition of solar lights will make the park a hot spot in the community.

Town Councilor Judy Bennett says she’s been looking forward to the completion of this project for quite some time and can’t wait to test it out with her dog.
