Sunday night death under investigation.

The RCMP are investigating the death of a 47 year old woman from the Paul Band First Nation after she was struck by a train on Sunday night.

Police were notified of the incident by CN Rail around 10 p.m. after she was struck by an east-bound train while walking in the same direction on the tracks, near the rail bridge by Moonlight Bay and the village of Wabamun.

The incident happened as Wabamun's annual Dragonfly Festival was just wrapping up though the village's Chief Administrative Officer couldn't confirm if the woman had attended the event, but does call the death tragic.

The RCMP say the investigation doesn't appear to be criminal in nature and RCMP officers, CN police and security personnel were stationed at a train crossing near the festival venue during the event.

This isn't the first pedestrian death in the area, as back in 2014 another person was killed in a spot close to Moonlight Bay.
