Water Restriction Spread to the Rest of the Tri-Region

Stony Plain has provided an update to the water restriction.

A new release from the Town of Stony Plain has shown the water restriction has escalated to the rest of the Tri-Region.

Effective immediately the Capital Region Water Services Commission has declared a level 1 water restriction for all member municipalities. This includes Parkland County, Spruce Grove and Stony Plain.

The restriction limits water usage only to essential services. This inhibits fire fighter training with potable water, watering sports fields, watering flowers, sweeping roads and flushing hydrants.

Stony Plain's General Manager of Planning and Infrastructure, Paul Hanlan explains the situation and what is causing the restriction by noting, "more water is being pumped out of the reservoirs than is coming in. It's imperative that this trend stops immediately and we can't do that without residents' cooperation."

The restriction has also delayed the opening of the outdoor pool, but the spray park is set to open tomorrow afternoon provided it passes a water test by Alberta Health Services.

The Level 1 Water Restriction remains in effect until further notice.
