Updated rec centre design hits Stony Plain council

Council deciding whether to send project for public feedback

A refined design for a new recreation complex in Stony Plain is being presented to council tonight.

Council is being asked to give town staff approval to take the design to the public for consultations.

The facilities would be an expansion added onto the west side of Glenn Hall Arena, and feature a new fieldhouse and gym, a new swimming pool, and a new ice rink.

A new outdoor rink would also be added in the expansion, which carries an estimated cost of $80 million dollars.

A study commissioned by the three local governments in 2017 showed that a new pool was the top priority of people in the Parkland region, with added arena space following that.

Staff are projecting that if council continues to move the project forward, final design work could be completed in the summer, with a final vote sometime in the fall.
