UCP's Lac St. Anne-Parkland nominee hosting meet and greet

Lac St. Anne-Parkland residents have a chance to meet UCP-nominee Shane Getson.

The United Conservative Party hosts an event to introduce its nominee in Lac St. Anne-Parkland tonight in Onoway.

Candidate Shane Getson of the Calahoo-area will be the focus of the “Meet the Candidate” dinner at the Onoway Royal Canadian Legion. An Annual General Meeting will also take place in which all 30 board positions including President, Secretary and CFO will be open for re-election.

This will be one of Getson’s first outings as the constituency’s UCP-nominee after he defeated Leah Wood for the position in December.

Although he is new to politics, Getson believes his experience in farming, forestry, and oil and gas gives him the necessary tools to succeed in Lac St. Anne-Parkland.

“Having someone in place who has actually managed projects before, been responsible and accountable, has dealt with change, and had to execute and report on it — that’s what’s needed,” said Getson.

The nominee got into politics after seeing what he calls the “topsy-turvy” changes the current governments have made.

“It’s just upside-down. And that’s really where it felt like federally and provincially that our province and our country is taking a surreal turn for the strange, odd, and unusual,” said Getson.

The candidate says his main mission if he’s elected MLA is to make people proud to be Albertans again and “take back” the province.

“We need to get back to basics. Let’s look for the inefficiencies and make the tax-payers’ dollars work for them. And let’s make it so business can actually work again,” said Getson.

Getson is a civil engineer technologist who grew up in the Chip Lake-area just outside of the constituency.

To vote at the AGM or to stand for a board position, individuals must have held a current UCP membership for at least 21 days prior to the meeting and also must prove residency in the Lac Ste. Anne-Parkland constituency. A government-issued photo ID that shows current residency is required.

While the AGM is free to attend for all local UCP members, tickets to the dinner cost $50 with a limit of 125 seats available. Tickets can be purchased via email at LacSte.Anne-Parkland@unitedconservative.ca or at the door.

Doors open at 5:00 with the dinner starting at 6:00. The AGM will be held following the dinner at 7:30.
