Team Alberta truly succeeded under its home advantage at this year’s Canada Winter Games, setting a personal-best of 36 gold medal wins.
The team captured a total of 100 medals at the games in Red Deer, which occurred Feb. 15 - March 3.
Alberta finished third place behind Ontario and Quebec and received the Jack Pelech Award for best sportsmanship, fair play, cooperation, and competitive performance as well as the Centennial Cup for showing the greatest improvement.
The Canada Games is the largest sporting and cultural event for amateur athletes in the country. It occurs every two years, alternating between winter and summer events.
This was the first time the games were held in Alberta since Grande Prairie hosted in 1995. This year's 20,000 visitors is expected to have brought-in over $130 million to the Red Deer area.
