Stony Plain to spread environmental awareness through Mayor's Pancake Breakfast

The Don't Just Trash It table returns to the event on June 1.

The Town of Stony Plain is using the upcoming Farmers’ Days to spread environmental awareness.

The Don't Just Trash It table will return to the Mayor's Pancake Breakfast on June 1.

Council will prepare pancakes served using proper composting, recycling, and garbage practices. All plates, cutlery, napkins, and cups used at the breakfast will be compostable.

Community Services Coordinator, Tevra Graham, says last year only one bag of garbage was filled between the 1200 people who attended the event. She says the rest of the waste was either compostable or recyclable.

The event runs from 7:00 to 9:30 at Heritage Park. Two dollars will get you a plate of pancakes, sausage, and juice or coffee. Kids under five are free.

The Don’t Just Trash It campaign aims to encourage people to think before they purchase, recycle, compost and trash.
