Stony Plain Teen Killed on Highway

Weekend collision under investigation.

The Fort Saskatchewan RCMP are investigating after a fatal two vehicle collision claimed the life of a teenage girl from the Stony Plain area over the weekend.

The RCMP say they responded to the scene on Highway 15 around 7:43 p.m. on Saturday night after reports of a head-on collision between an SUV and a truck.  Upon arrival, police say the 17-year-old driver of the SUV died at the scene while the 48-year-old man driving the truck was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.  He has since been released.

Police do believe the weather to have been a factor, with road conditions at the time considered to have been very slippery.  The North Saskatchewan River Bridge was closed for several hours as collision analysts surveyed the area.
