On Sunday night, Stony Plain Fire Department responded to a fire in Meridian Loop.
Stony Plain Fire Crews were called to a scene on Meridian Loop on the evening of April 8th.
At around 11 p.m., crews responded to a call of a fire in the area and upon arrival noticed a duplex up in flames. Fire Chief Trevor Mistal explains further, "we found a fully involved duplex, the entire back side was involved and it was in the attic, but our crews got on scene and actioned it quickly and contained the damage to the one duplex".
Mistal added further they were lucky the fire didn't spread and there was only minor siding damage to the neighboring buildings.
Speaking more to the incident Mistal adds, "everybody was home at the time, but everyone evacuated safely, we evacuated the neighboring duplex on either side just as a precaution but no injuries to occupants or pets".
Crews were able to get the fire under control in approximately an hour and a half due to the difficult location, but Mistal says both wind and weather were in their favour in getting the fire under control.
The cause of the incident is currently under investigation.
