Stolen Vehicle Investigation Leads to Drug Charges

Two people face drug trafficking charges after a joint investigation involving Stony Plain/ Spruce Grove Serious Crime Unit.

A joint investigation involving several detachments including local RCMP has led to two arrests.

On March 2nd members of the Stony Plain / Spruce Grove Serious Crime Unit, Edmonton General Investigation Section, K Division Auto Theft Secion and the Central Alberta Integrated Crime Reduction Unit conducted a joint investigation into the trafficking of stolen vehicles around Spruce Grove.

This investigation led to the arrest of two people who were found in a stolen 2017 Nissan Titan in Edmonton. A search of the vehicle found 28 grams of fentanyl, 8 grams of methamphetamine, 87 grams of marijuana and drug trafficking paraphernalia. An undisclosed amount of Canadian currency was found in addition to a loaded handgun deemed to be stolen.

The two people face the following charges:

34 year old Brady Shivak from Stony Plain faces;

  • Possession of a stolen firearm
  • Possession of a firearm without holding a proper license
  • Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Trafficking in property obtained by crime over $5000

21 year old Winter Alger from Sylvan Lake faces;

  • Possession of a stolen firearm
  • Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Trafficking in property obtained by crime over $5000

Both Shivak and Alger appeared in court on March 6th.
