Spruce Grove Robbery Leads to One Arrest

One male has been arrested after an armed robbery and bomb threat at a local convenience store.

RCMP have arrested one man following an armed robbery of a Spruce Grove 7-11.

On February 3rd at approximately 2:00 a.m., RCMP responded to an armed robbery and bomb threat at the Spruce Ridge 7-11. A lone male had walked into the store and showed the clerk a bulge in his shirt saying he had a bomb strapped to him. The clerk then handed over an undisclosed amount of cash before the suspect fled on foot.

The RCMP who were in the area were able to arrive quickly enough to track the suspect by his footprints which led back to a residence.

The male was located and identified as Matthew Despres, 28, and he was charged with robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failure to comply with a probation order. It was also discovered Despres did not have a bomb on him and nobody was injured in the incident.

Despres will appear in court on February 7th.
