Parkland County dropped out of funding agreement for School Resource Officer
An RCMP School Resource Officer will continue to work in Parkland School Division.
The position was in jeopardy after Parkland County pulled out of a funding agreement at the end of June, which saw them contribute 20% of its annual cost.
Spruce Grove and Stony Plain have now partnered to evenly split that cost moving forward.
For the second half of this year, it'll cost each municipality about $6,500, on top of the $26,000 that each has already funded.
Starting next year, Spruce and Stony will each pay for 30% of the position, with the school division continuing to fund the remaining 40%.
That's expected to cost each municipality roughly $41,000 next year.
At Spruce Grove's meeting on Monday, council will also be asked to put up $5,000 for the RCMP Musical Ride in September.
The organizing Kinsmen Club of Stony Plain believes expenses will come in at around $40,000.
Finally, councillor-elect Jeff Acker will be sworn in, after winning the byelection on Wednesday.
