Saints take down Bobcats, Storm in first February games

The Spruce Grove Saints started February off right, winning their first two games of the month over the weekend.

The Spruce Grove Saints started February off right, winning their first two games of the month over the weekend.

On Friday night, the Saints took on the Lloydminster Bobcats on the road. Coming into the game, the Saints had beaten the Bobcats all five times they had played them this year, and had outscored them 36-12. Friday's matchup was no different. It wasn't an easy game throughout for the Saints, with the game being tied 2-2 after two periods. The Bobcats scored first in both periods, leaving the Saints to play catchup with powerplay goals from Ryan Conroy in the first, and Jordan Biro in the second. In the third, the Saints took over. Brayden Nicholetts scored 39 seconds in to give them a lead, and Stanley Cooley scored the insurance marker late in the frame. Maxence Duschene got his 11th win of the season.

Yesterday afternoon, the Saints took on the Grande Prairie Storm at home. Unlike the Bobcats game, the game was all Saints.  Spruce Grove had six different goal scorers as they scored two in each period to win 6-1. Ethan Edwards had the game winner and two assists, while Ryan Peckford had two helpers of his own. The Saints dominated the Storm in the shot department, outshooting them 48-27. Matt Davis got the start in this game, giving him 6 wins in his last 7 starts.

The Saints next play on Wednesday afternoon against the Bonnyville Pontiacs.
