Alberta RCMP are promoting safe driving initiatives for this upcoming Thanksgiving weekend.

Police are asking all pedestrians and drivers to be safe and prepared on the roads. Drivers are told it is important to make sure your headlights are working, not use cell phones while driving, and to not drive while impaired either by alcohol, drugs or lack of sleep.

Pedestrians are encouraged to wear bright clothes at night, be aware by not texting and walking, and keep down the volume of music so your surroundings are not drowned out.

In Alberta last October, one pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle, and 17 more were injured in RCMP controlled areas.
