PRIDE in the PARK comes Sunday.
Stony Plain recognizes its LGBTQ+ community through an event coming this weekend.
PRIDE in the PARK will then be held on Sunday at Shikaoi Park.
"Everyone wants to live somewhere where they feel included. That's what these events are about; showing members of the rainbow community that we truly are an inclusive town where everyone is welcome," said Organizer and Founder of the events, Tannis Matthews.
She says the festivities are non-political.
"In today's political climate, often political views can hinder progress. I just wanted to make this a fun day of celebrating for everyone, regardless of what box you check when voting," she said.
Sunday's celebration begins at 1:00 p.m., and includes on-site food and prizes, as well as the chance to donate to the Parkland Food Bank. An after party will be held immediately after at Moonshiners from 4-9:00. The all-ages party will feature door prizes and a performance by local musician Mike Hanlon.
Edmonton's Pride events were canceled this year, with Matthews saying she's excited to see what Stony Plain's crowd turnout will be in response to this.
PRIDE in the PARK will run rain or shine.
