Plant explosion in Parkland County still under investigation

OHS is still looking into the Feb. 11 incident at Pinnacle Renewable Energy in Entwistle.

An explosion at a Parkland County plant is still being investigated by Occupational Health and Safety.

Twelve workers were injured at Pinnacle Renewable Energy in Entwistle on Feb. 11. Kody Richter has remained in Edmonton’s Royal Alexandra Hospital since the incident.

Gershan Dhillion of OHS says the wood pellet plant was issued a stop work order, which requires the creation of a plan for the safe inspection, removal, and repair of a dryer before the order will be dropped. He says the plant can begin operation once it meets all stipulations of the order.

OHS has recently conducted two investigations at the Entwistle plant. The first came in December, which resulted in an order for the safe-guarding of equipment and the second investigation came in January in response to a fire that injured no workers.
