Parkland RCMP reminding residents not to leave their vehicles running unattended

Since the snow started falling in our area, six vehicles that were left running have been stolen.

With temperatures below zero, Parkland RCMP has issued a reminder to all residents not to leave their vehicles running unattended before they leave for work.

"This is a crime of opportunity," says Cst. Shelley Nasheim of Parkland RCMP.  She says now is more important than ever to be aware as we approach the holidays.

There are also a number of additional tips drivers should follow that include removing any personal items that you wouldn't normally leave in there overnight such as Christmas gifts and loose change as well as your garage door opener.

"Also if you can, invest in a remote starter and use a steering wheel lock, it does deter them."

Since the snow started falling, around six vehicles in our area that were left running have been stolen so far.

Anyone that witnesses any suspicious activity in their neighborhood is asked to call RCMP right away.
