Parkland RCMP lay 14 charges after crime spree

Matthew Marler (30) was charged with various weapon, theft, traffic, and probation offenses following the incident.

Collaboration between multiple police detachments in the area resulted in the arrest of a man early Saturday morning.

Parkland RCMP say it was at 2:17 a.m. when they were called to the scene of a break and enter in Spruce Grove’s industrial area. The building had been entered, and a service truck with a tracking device had been stolen.

Police were able to locate the vehicle in St. Albert, but when police tried to pull over the driver, he fled by driving through several residential properties. RCMP say he then headed to Morinville, where he committed several offenses including robbery, break and enter, and theft.

The man was located and arrested through a collaboration between Edmonton Police Air Services, and Morinville, St. Albert, and Parkland RCMP.

Matthew Marler (30) of no fixed address was charged with various weapon, theft, traffic, and probation offenses.

He was also arrested for warrants out of Athabasca, Red Deer, and Boyle.

After a judicial hearing, Marler was remanded into custody. He is set to appear in Stony Plain Provincial court on July 4.

RCMP say the investigation is ongoing and further charges are pending.
