Izzy Spink and Candra Callahan join Team Alberta.
Two members of the championship-winning Parkland Posse Bantam girls team are in Coquitlam, British Columbia this week for nationals.
Candra Callahan and Izzy Spink both say they’re nervous, but excited for the chance to represent their province, saying this’ll be the biggest competition they’ve ever played in.
The pair join Team Alberta, a team heavily made up of opponents Parkland has faced in past league play and tournaments.
Callahan says she wasn’t sure how to feel about this team dynamic.
“I was a little nervous, because sometimes I’ll go out there and just hit people. I felt like they were gonna hate me, but we’re all friends now,” Callahan said, while laughing.
Despite being new to their teammates, Spink says after some scrimmages against some older players, she thinks Team Alberta is really coming together.
Team Alberta will play provincial teams from Ontario, Nova Scotia, and British Columbia twice, before semi-finals determine who will play in the gold medal game. The girls say they expect BC to be their toughest opponent.
