The St. Albert RCMP are actively searching for 21 handguns reported missing after a break in at a gun shop in the city.

Around 4:45 a.m. on Tuesday, the RCMP responded to the report of an alarm going off at a store on St. Michael Street called 'The Shootist.'

Upon the arrival of police, the front door of the business was found to be smashed open, while an unknown amount of suspects also broke into a cabinet containing weapons, which led to the missing report for the nearly two dozen handguns.

The investigation remains ongoing.
