Nearly 30 mm of rain during Sunday storm in Stony Plain

Second-wettest day of Summer 2019

Roughly 28 mm of rain fell on Stony Plain in under two hours during the storm on Sunday afternoon.

Flooding issues have been reported in homes, businesses, streets, parks, and creeks and streams.

The areas seemingly hit hardest from the flooding are in the north end of town, east of Highway 779.

Due to the amount of rainfall over the weekend, the Stony Plain Golf Course has shut down for the day on Monday, and says it hopes to resume bookings by Tuesday.

Officials are also asking people to stay away from flood waters in public areas, until it's able to make sure they're safe.

28 mm is Stony Plain's wettest day of July, and second rainiest of the summer.

Back on June 19, Environment Canada recorded 37 mm of rainfall in town.

Accumulation totaled roughly 62 mm between the 19th and the 20th.
