EPS checkstops net more drunk drivers
The Edmonton Police Service says there was a rise in impaired drivers this holiday season.
59 drivers were charged as part of EPS's "Checkstop" program, in comparison to the 42 charges in December 2017.
Impaired driving charges increased in 2018 as a whole, with 149 charges laid; a 17% rise from 2017.
Police also checked more vehicles as part of this year's campaign - the 4800 was nearly a 27% increase from the same time in 2017.
Overall impaired driver charges rose as well, with 149 charges laid in 2018, compared to 127 the year before.
