Kids Can Catch events in Parkland County cancelled

Weather puts activities at Mink Lake and Wabamun Lake on-hold for Family Day weekend.

A popular family day event has been cancelled in Parkland County, but organizers say there’s a chance it may be rescheduled.

The Kids Can Catch weekend activities at both Wabamun Lake and Mink Lake, near Onoway, have been called-off due to harsh weather. Organizers hope the festivities will be rescheduled, but a date hasn’t been confirmed.

Conservation Alberta organizes these weekends to allow families with little exposure to the world of fishing to try-it-out for free, without a license. Volunteers at the events teach new fishers the proper techniques and rules of the sport.

The weekend will still be free to fish, but the official events with not be held within Parkland County.

Sheila Campbell of Conservation Alberta says she understands the disappointment, with 600 people signing up to fish at Wabamun Lake for the Family Day weekend, and another 100 people at Mink Lake.
