GraceLife Church pastor remains in custody

His next court appearance is scheduled for February 24th.

A Parkland County pastor remains in custody after appearing in court yesterday.

James Coates faces two counts of violating the Public Health Act and failing to comply with a condition of his undertaking. His lawyer says the condition that Coates be released if he agrees to follow the health order doesn’t sit well.

“Following the health act would put him in a position of committing a wrong before his god.” says James Kitchen.

Coates has been in the news after holding a series of worship services at GraceLife Church that violated the Public Health Act’s requirement that requires all faith based services be capped at 15% capacity.

Kitchen is hoping all legal proceedings will be handled at one trial.

Coates next court appearance is scheduled for February 24th.
