One man in custody, charges pending.

Charges are pending after a man was taken into custody following an hours-long standoff in a Spruce Grove community.

According to information released by both the Stony Plain/Spruce Grove/Enoch RCMP and the Edmonton Police Service, EPS responded to a home in northwest Edmonton around 10:45 AM yesterday.  Authorities allege a three year old girl was taken by her biological father who was not to be at that residence.

The girl was later located at a Heritage Estates residence in Spruce Grove and was returned to her mother unharmed.

During the incident, local RCMP asked residents living at the east end of Hawthorne Gate to remain in their homes and for others to avoid the area.  The man was in the residence for a few hours and the RCMP's Emergency Response team was called in to assist with the arrest.  The area was cleared by authorities at 8:11 PM.

The male suspect, whose name won't be released, remains in the custody of the Edmonton Police Service while charges are pending.
