Devon to start waste reduction task force

Group to focus on reducing Town's waste through innovation

The Town of Devon is looking to reinforce Monday's announcement from the Prime Minister.

The federal government is looking to ban certain single use plastics in Canada by 2021.

In Devon, a waste reduction task force is currently in its inception.

Five community members will make up the group, along with a town councillor and a member of administration.

Applications will be accepted from Wednesday through to July 15, with the members appointed in mid-August.

As a part of the initiative, Waste Free Edmonton will be in town on Wednesday for a presentation.

The grassroots organization is focused on eliminating single use plastics, like bags, straws, coffee cups, and takeout containers.

The free presentation is at the Devon Community Centre at 6 pm, with doors opening at 5:30.
